Grand Master Chris Yaeger is a proud Deer Park High School graduate and lifelong martial artist with over 45 years of experience in training, teaching, and promoting martial arts. From an early age, Yaeger was immersed in the martial arts world—his father helped establish one of the first martial arts schools in the Houston area, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion.
Today, he is the founder and head instructor of Self Defense America, a respected martial arts school located in Deer Park, Texas. Since opening his first school in 1989, Grand Master Yaeger has built a legacy of empowering students through physical skill, confidence-building, and character development. Under his leadership, Self Defense America has become a trusted community hub where students of all ages are taught discipline, respect, and personal responsibility.

Grand Master Yaeger is a 9-time Hall of Fame inductee and holds black belts in seven martial arts disciplines:

In 2013, he founded the Yaeger Fighting System, a nationally recognized blended martial arts and self-defense style certified through the Texas Sport Karate Museum. Drawing from decades of experience, the system incorporates elements from multiple styles including Kenpo, Hapkido, Tang Soo Do, Judo, and more. It offers students a comprehensive, practical, and effective approach to self-defense and personal growth.

Do I need any prior experience to join your classes?

No prior experience is required. Our classes are suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. Our instructors provide personalized guidance to help you progress at your own pace.

What should I wear to my first class?

For your first class, wear comfortable athletic clothing and bring a water bottle. If you're joining a martial arts class, we recommend wearing a clean, comfortable gi or workout attire. Protective gear will be provided for your safety.
